Students and Teachers Career Development Program in Sierra Leone

In the remote village of Makeni, Sierra Leone, a place ravaged by the scars of Ebola and COVID-19, Educate a Generation Foundation (EAG) brought a spark of hope. Here, where 90% of the students are orphans—children who lost their parents to the horrors of Ebola—EAG set out to heal not just minds but hearts. At Lamin and Kadie Bah Academy, EAG’s academic bridge program was a lifeline. It taught Critical Thinking, Time Management, Public Speaking, and Academic Research, along with basic computer skills. But it was more than lessons—it was a chance to rise above the pain of the past. The students, many of whom had never known what it felt like to laugh or play, were introduced to football and volleyball. Through sports, they learned the strength of teamwork, the power of resilience, and the joy of being alive. Yet, the true transformation came when EAG integrated Mental Health counseling into the program. For the first time, the students found a safe space to confront the trauma they carried, to speak their pain, and to understand that their past didn’t define their future.Of 32 students, 15 received full scholarships to the best universities in Sierra Leone. This wasn’t just an academic victory—it was a triumph of the human spirit, of children who had faced unimaginable loss, yet still dared to dream.EAG also turned its attention to the teachers—many of whom were born during the civil war in 1992, carrying their own heavy burdens. These educators, who had witnessed years of violence and loss, were themselves in need of healing. Through Mental Health support and specialized training, EAG helped them rediscover their purpose. They realized that their role was not just to teach, but to nurture, to care, and to heal. The students’ future was in their hands, and with every lesson, they were building not just minds, but futures. As the African proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” In Makeni, the journey of healing, education, and hope has only just begun. The pain is real, but so is the possibility of a brighter tomorrow—a tomorrow where children, teachers, and a community rise together, stronger than ever before.

School Project

Together, we are transforming the lives of 1,000 underprivileged and vulnerable children by providing free traditional education through our dedicated school-building efforts. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of gender, creed, or background. Guided by our Cura Personalis values, our mission goes beyond education; we strive to create a bilingual environment where children not only learn in the traditional way but also master Arabic and English. Your support can make a lasting impact—let's empower these children to reach their potential and build a brighter future together!
